BRAS FOR YOUR BODY

BRA THERAPY     \     BRAS FOR YOUR BODY

In our many years fitting bras, we’ve seen it all.  Here are a few words of wisdom on selecting the best style for your individual body type:

IF YOU ARE PETITE OR SMALL-BUSTED...

  • If you are looking for some enhancement, try a padded or push-up style.  Some bras have “bump pads” in the bottom or side of the cup specifically designed to create cleavage, and some designers even make “add-a-cup” styles which will increase the appearance of your bustline by one full cup size.

  • Balconette and demi bras will most likely be flattering styles on you.  These bras do not have as much coverage as other cuts, but are great for smaller frames.

  • If you like a little less, try a bralette or triangle style.  These are generally soft, non-contour styles with minimal coverage.  They don’t offer as much support, but are great for comfort.

IF YOU ARE AN AVERAGE FIGURE...

  • You can wear many different styles.  Generally, we recommend an underwire.  Underwire bras can go a long way in separating, defining, and lifting your breasts.  However, if you find underwire uncomfortable or cannot wear them, there are some great wire-free styles available.

  • Try different styles to see what you find most comfortable and flattering.  We suggest having a number of different bras for different wardrobe solutions – see “Bra Wardrobe” link in sidebar.

IF YOU ARE FULL-BUSTED...

  • You’ll probably want to look for a full coverage bra.  This is a style that has more fabric in the cups for better containment, and often a wider strap or band for better support and lift.  Fuller busted women generally find these styles to be more comfortable and a much better fit.

  • Generally, look for underwire styles.  A fuller bustline needs as much support as possible, and an underwire gives greater definition and lift than a wire-free style.

  • Stay away from demi and balconette styles.  Because these styles are lower cut and much less coverage, they often do not contain a fuller bustline well.

Just like every woman is unique, all bras are created differently.  You will find that not every bra style works for your individual body type. Certain styles will flatter your figure more than others, and you may even find a particular brand that works best for your bustline. Keep in mind that just because a manufacturer makes a bra in a certain size does not mean that you should wear it.  It’s all about knowing what works for you.
